Rider Instructions

Before the event

Please check your details are all correct on the FINAL ride entry list. In the final week before the event, these are held on the DB MAX website – CLICK HERE. You will need to bring some ID with you on the day, or simply bring a print out of the confirmation email you received when you first registered.

Location and arrival

The event is based at Brands Hatch Motor Circuit. You will have access to Brands Hatch from 7.00am and, if arriving by car, you must enter via the main gates on Main Road Gorse Hill (old A20) next to the Thistle Hotel. The post code for satnav is DA3 8NG.

On arrival, please follow the parking marshals directions. Once parked, please proceed to registration at the Kentagon (our HQ for the day). There is an excellent map of Brands Hatch HERE. On that Map, the Kentagon is labelled as building 6, and you are parking in the grey car park.
Please do not bring your bikes into the Kentagon, but leave them in the bike park area outside (at your own risk). Inside the Kentagon, you will be able to buy tea, coffee or last minute snacks. Next to the Kentagon is a very large block of toilet facilities as well.

Registration

Registration will be open from 7.30am to 9.00am inside the Kentagon.

There will be registration desks in Surname order. When signing in you will receive:

  • Your rider number, to fix on your handlebars, with plastic ties for attachment. Please do ride with this number on your bike: it’s not just for the photographers, but also for us to check that you are on the right route!
  • Your disposable timing chip, which will need to be attached to your helmet. There is no need to return the timing chip to us after you complete the Kentish Killer.
  • A route card with a range of emergency numbers on the reverse. You can also find copies of these on our website. Note that all routes will be marked by regular direction signs.

Before setting off, you will find that mechanics will be on standby to provide any last minute mechanical support and supply a limited stock of spare parts.

Starting the ride

You will have a departure time (also shown on your ticket). Departures start at 8.13am through to 9.39am. It is important to stick to your allocated departure time because only a limited number of riders can set off together – there will be plenty of opportunities to regroup with friends during the ride.

You will need to be ready to go about 10 minutes before your departure time, when you will be called into a holding pen. At the appropriate time you will be then moved into the departure pen, ready for the off! Please listen to the starter’s instructions whilst you are in the pen. When you roll over the matting, your timing will start.

Food

The short route has one indoor feed station, and the long route two indoors (with toilets). There will be a range of foods (bananas, energy bars, cakes etc) together with water and energy drinks.

Riding

Please be on your best cycling behaviour on the ride . You will be helped by more than 60 marshals (in high viz jackets) on the course together with NEG’s motorbike marshals.
The long route is genuinely tough, with a lot of climbing involved through great scenery. A VERY fit rider might do the 71 miles in less than 4 hours, but others might take as long as 7 hours.

If you have any problems en-route that mean you are unable to ride back to HQ or you need any assistance – call one of the numbers on the route card or on the back of your rider number which should’ve been attached to your handlebars.

Finish

When you return to Brands Hatch, no doubt exhausted, make sure you do go over the finishing line (otherwise you’ll get an incorrect time). Then proceed to the Kentagon where you will be able to pick up a hot meal, coffee and tea. The meal is hot pasta and vegetables.
We hope to display finishing times on a screen in the Kentagon. Whatever the case, full results will be available on the website within 48 hours.

Good Luck
The Kentish Killer Team
