Time Trial Season 2022 – Ready for the Off!

Like a lot of things, Covid restrictions have made Time Trial events difficult to organise since 2019. We are really hoping that 2022 sees a change to that, with a full season of activities. Time Trialling is fun and as competitive as you want it to be (largely with yourself!). It’s also sociable – over the season it’s great catching up with lots of other cyclists doing what they love.

All the details of events are held here: Time Trial Events. Over the season, we run 21 events, all organised and marshalled by the three clubs involved – GS Avanti, 7Oaks Tri and Sydenham Wheelers. They are all 10 miles and on public roads, but with plenty of marshal and signs in place. They are run at quieter times of day, but you have to be traffic aware, just like any road cycling.

We run a range of competitions over the year – across the three clubs, and also for GS Avanti members only. As long as you attend at least 8 events of the 21 you have a chance of winning a trophy as we have categories based on “scratch”, age handicap and also Men/Women. Your rally do not need to invest in any special kit – just turn up on a road bike.

Events across April and early May are early on a Saturday, with the first at Sundridge on 2 April (includes cycling up and down Pol Hill!). You win points for Avanti just by turning up – and it’s about time we won the Inter Club Trophy again. The first midweek event is Thursday 12 May at Brands Hatch.

A Virtual Build Up

From 31 March for 6 weeks, we are staging a Thursday evening (7.30pm) 10 mile Zwift TT. It’s open to any GSA, Sydenham and 7Oaks members, and is a bit of fun – though we will have a results table for you to enjoy. To participate, your first need to “follow me – CHRIS DINES (GSA) on the Companion App and I will get you set up.

Marshalling

We do need some marshalling assistance for the six events we run – more details to follow. Anyone marshalling and not competing gets paid £15 in expenses.

If you have any questions, just contact Chris Dines – Club TT Secretary – or post in the box below

In addition to the 10-mile events, there are also a couple held on the “sporting” (this is TT-speak for hilly!) 21-mile Gracious Lane course. One for the climbers…
