Hi Avanti Member.

It was great fun at Brands Hatch last Saturday, when we saw 44 Avanti members taking part in the Team Time Trial plus a whole lot of helpers. Not only great fun, but we also won on the day AND one the Inter Club Championships for the first time. I’ve copied in Dave Bettinson’s report on our success below – and Dave has been championing Time Trialling at the club ever since it’s foundation.

Open Day and Club Rides this Sunday.

All Sunday Club Rides will meet at 9am this Sunday. We will have a number of guest riders – and why not encourage friends and family to come along and give it a try. We are not equipped, yet, to help with complete beginners, but anyone who thinks they can ride over 30 miles will be very welcome.

All rides will take similar routes, converging on Speedgate Café for free refreshments. For club members it’s a chance to ride with different groups.

As ever, it really does help if you can confirm attendance – takes 5 seconds to RSVP on the event page. CLICK HERE.

Floodlit ride session at Gravesend Cyclopark.

We are very likely to book Cyclopark for a private track session on a Friday evening – under floodlights. Lee Staples is looking to put a fun evening together involving both skills development and some fun competition. Please register your interest on the racing and training forum CLICK HERE – if not already, you may need to join the forum which is club members only. There does seem to be plenty of interest already, looking at the forum. As ever, such events are for all members, regardless of fitness, skills or experience.

Our convincing win this year was given a huge boost by the 11 teams we entered at Brands Hatch Race Circuit on Saturday 11th September.

It had taken 7 years of dedication and hard work by the club's Time Trial Team to wrestle the trophy from 7 Oaks Tri Club.

We were very close in 2015, losing out at the final race on the Harrietsham course over 15 miles, whilst leading at the penultimate event. 20 races per year over 7 years, demonstrates the commitment all 3 clubs give to this championship. Having raced against Sydenham Wheelers (as invitees only) in a less than popular earlier interclub event with poor showings from Catford CC and Dulwich Paragon, we threatened to start an alternative championship without Sydenham Wheelers, leaving them to race against themselves.

Bob Loader suggested we approach 7 Oaks Tri Club to join us, as being local, and with a large membership would ensure the combined strength would give a guaranteed turnout every week. How true that turned out to be. This year members were turned away due to hitting FULL UP limits at the popular East Peckham course.

With Avanti's increased membership, and skill, we can continue to battle for top honours with the other two clubs starting again in 2017.Picture of our trophy below!!

We need every member to turn out during next season, whenever they can. Your Xmas present list should include essential cycle goodies.

NOTE – Final Scores at the 4UP at Brands Hatch – Avanti 152 points, Sydenham 56 points and 7Oaks 44 points. Final Championship Totals – Avanti 662 points, 7Oaks 472 points and Sydenham 409 points.

Enjoy your cycling this weekend, and stay safe!
