Dear Avanti Member,

First of all - keep an eye out on the website tomorrow as there is a chance that the Isle of Grain TT tomorrow afternoon will be cancelled due to roadworks or the blustery conditions.

Thanks for the great turnout at the social evening!

We had plenty of members turning out at the pub on Monday to enjoy a few drinks, nibbles, watching the track cycling, trying on kit and meeting new faces. It's great to see the club growing.

Big Doggie Dog!

We had a great time panting around the hills outside Brighton last Saturday at the Big Dog MTB race - see the write-ups on the forum for a flavour of the pain and joy. If anyone is interested in off-road riding - get in touch - we're trying to keep the momentum up and might do a monthly MTB ride.

Interclub Finale is confirmed at Brands Hatch

We're please to announce that we have secured the use of Brands Hatch to run the final team time trial of the year - the 4-up on Saturday 10th September. It's a really amazing opportunity to ride around the GP Circuit.  We collected names for teams on Monday - and please let us know if you want to participate and haven't already done so -  click here.

Also the Revolve 24 endurance race will be starting later that day - with an optional Omnium event right after our TTT - we'll send out more details next week as there will be discount for club members.

We have a very popular local sportive, the Circuit of Kent, coming up in early September (130km = 80m) and there are still places funded by the club available. Please express your interest here or contact Patrick Norman. It is a great circuit taking lanes and roads that we don’t go to very often with the Carter's Hill right at the end as a special added bonus, and good food & refreshment en route as well as at the finish. We will ride as a single group or as two groups subject to the number of members involved.

Next club open day rides

Our open day rides - where we invite friends, family and cycling connections along to take part in club rides - have been very popular. We've attracted lots of new members from them in the past. We have another planned for Sunday 18th September. Keep the date free in your  diary - we need to have as many Avanti out as possible. We'll all be heading out in different directions and converging on Speedgate to enjoy refreshments on the club together. We'll send out more info nearer the time.

G1/2 Ride to the coast

Next weekend - Sunday 28th - (weather permitting) G1 and G2 will be setting off early to ride to the coast. It's likely G1 will ride to have breakfast on the beach at Camber Sands (120 miles) and G2 will follow the same route but out to Rye for a 100 mile ride.

We have a our regular Saturday ride - meeting at the Green for an 8am departure (a usual 40-45 mile trip of mix abilities ending in Belmondo's for a coffee/tea and a naughty slice of a cake).

Simon Clarke and Andy Covington are leading G1+G2 to Bewl Water. This is a cracking route to the Beal Barn cafe with stunning views and even better cake and service. 70 miles at a decent G1 and G2 rolling pace. Click to let us know you're coming.

This week we have an extra ride - as well as G3 and G4 rides, there will be an early, 100 mile G3/G4 ride out to Rye - led by Brian Bulmer. Leaving from the G at 8:15 - please click to let us know you're coming.

Ian Soper leads the usual G3 ride out to the Isle of Grain. 60 miles at 15mph. Click to let us know you're coming.

Jenny will be leading G4 out to Oxted. 40 miles at 13-14mph. Please click to let us know you're coming.

Have a great weekend, folks - stay safe out there if the weather's ropey.

Steve Rodgers
