Hi Avanti Member!

This is a packed newsletter – lots of decisions made at this week’s Club Meeting.

Before getting in to that, well done to all those who did the Ride 100 (see copious write ups HERE!) and also to Joseph Mulhall who successfully completed his first Iron Man at Iron Man UK last weekend. We’ve featured his story and some pictures in this NEWS ITEM

Recruitment of a Professional Coach

A key part of our aims for GS Avanti  building a reputation for the coaching, training and cycling development of all members – whatever your starting point or experience. This is also associated with our move to being a Community Amateur Sports Club.

At our Club Committee meeting this week we agreed to take the next steps in recruiting a part time, professional coach who will be “embedded” in the club. They would:

• Help create a development programme for the club, encompassing basic bike skills, fitness programmes all the way through to race/TT training.

• Lead a range of sessions to facilitate the above, throughout the year.

• Assist others to develop coaching skills and participate in ride leadership.

• Run innovative online support for all members.

• Create tailored training packages for groups or individual – with this element likely to involve an additional payment option.

I will be leading this project together with a small team (Lee Staples, Steve Rodgers and Dave Bettinson at present), as we pin down requirements and process. We will be asking members what they want to see via a club survey – so please play a part in this, and you might also know coaches to add to a shortlist.

There will be more on this in due course.

Time Trialling – Tomorrow’s 2UP and exciting news for the Inter Club 4 Up

We have a healthy lead in the Inter Club TT champs. Tomorrow we are back on the old A20 near Brands Hatch. If you want a ride but are looking for a partner, please notify on THIS FORUM or email me (chairman@gsavanti.co.uk)

The Inter-Club 4-Up is on Saturday 10th September, and GS Avanti run this event. We await final confirmation (insurance issue), but I am excited to say that we have secured the opportunity of  staging it on the actual Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch. Apart from being a one off opportunity to ride on the iconic circuit, it also makes for a much safer event for those with little experience. We would love to see lots of teams coming together.

For both the 2 UP and the 4UP team TTs please coordinate teams on THIS FORUM.

Circuit of Kent

Every year many club members participate in the enticing, 130km, Circuit of Kent. See: http://www.kentcyclosportive.co.u

As with last year, the club is making a contribution to support a large group entry, and Patrick Norman has kindly agreed to get this coordinated. Please RSVP and comment on THIS EVENT PAGE. Places are likely to be awarded on a first come, first served, basis.

Club Social Evening – Date for your Diary

We have a lot of recent new members, so we thought it would be good to have another social evening. It will be scheduled for Wednesday 17 August at a suitable pub in the vicinity of Green St Green. It will be a chance to discuss lots of the things mentioned in this newsletter!

Club Open Day – Date for Your Diary

We are hosting our second club Open Day of 2016 on Sunday 18 September. This is a chance for all club members to mix with different groups, ride similar routes, stop at the same café AND invite along prospective members. If the weather is good, we’d like to arrange some good photos of a mass turnout in (new) club kit. More details closer to the time.

Finally – we will share a brief update on weekend rides on Friday. Hope to see you at the TT tomorrow night!
