Dear Avanti Member,

The weather has certainly turned the corner and we can finally put away the winter kit and pull out all those fancy new shorts, short-sleeve jerseys and socks of various colours and patterns. As a club we have been complimented on many occasions about our club kit. Patrick and Julian even got complimentary beers and refreshment in one of many hospitality areas during the Tour of Flanders.

The time trial season is in full swing and we had a great Avanti turnout at yesterday's Brands Hatch Time Trial (ChrisD, Sam, Daniel, Philip, DaveB, JohnnyE, AlanJ, SimonH, Rich, LeeS and myself). It was a new safer modified route but for the most of us it was the first time on this course anyway. The route was simple. It started in a lay-by on A20 just outside Farningham, it went straight up against the wind all the way to the roundabout at the top of the Wrotham Hill and then back. It was good fun and hard work at the same time. Everyone who starts and finishes gets a point so every hand on deck counts! You can find more information on the Avanti website under Activities. Johnny Edwards has been updating information and results in a nice and clean way and there are also new photos in the Photo Gallery.

Tuesday Night Group Rides

We have already re-started Tuesday Night Group Rides led by Lee Staples (the meeting point is the garage at the Green at 7.30pm). These rides focus on improving technical skills of riding in a group (both bigger and smaller) with additional drills. We usually follow the same route finishing at the same spot where we start around 9pm. Rides have been well attended so far but please indicate your intention under the Events section on the website.

Kit News

The Kalas club shop closes today for this month and it will be open again at the start of the next month. We will be taking a delivery of arm warmers in Avanti colours and caps next week. There is even a talk of Avanti gloves which Chris Dines was testing during the time trial yesterday. Steve Rodgers is our club kit coordinator and he can answer any questions you may have regarding the club garderobe.

Club Rides this Weekend

On Saturday, our own Johnnie Owen will be leading a contingent of riders for a 40 miler around the Kentish countryside. The meeting time is 8am and it is a mixed ability ride at a pace to suit the group on the day.

A large group of Avanti members are taking part in the Velothon Cardiff Sportive this weekend. It is quite a hilly sportive. For the rest of us (so that we do not miss out) Patrick and Andy will be leading G1 and G2 groups on Sunday heading to Surrey and tackling the Leith Hill, White Down, Box Hill and Waller. It will be about 80 miles and 5000ft of climbing so we will be meeting earlier than usually at 8.30am at the car park outside of the Royal Oak pub.

G4 will be heading to Trosley Park (40 miles, 12-13mph) led by Paula. There will be also a G3 ride. We will keep you posted on the website. The meeting time is 9am.

As ever - see the website for details and please click to let the ride leaders know you are attending.

Last but not least, we would like to welcome to our club eight new members: Claire Watson, Dean Morse, Dave Burnage, Alan Koura, James Heppleston, Nolan Wilkens, Mark Bishop, and Joseph Mulhall.

Have a good fun on and off the bike this weekend wherever you are!

Marek
