Dear Avanti member

Busy times at GS Avanti as we finally get into Spring.

A large Avanti party spent last weekend in Flanders, taking part in the Saturday sportive, watching the centenary Tour of Flanders from the Oude Kwaremont on the Sunday and generally eating and drinking a huge amount. Personally I rode a 230km event and came back having put a couple of pounds on!

There are lots of great pictures and write ups on the website – see Flanders Forum. You will see in the pictures that we were wearing black armbands in remembrance of Steve Wand. I have included his funeral details below.

While many of us were in Flanders, it was the early season Inter Club TT – every year this event is set to a time when most of the club are doing something else, so we maintained our normal third place. The good news - a lot of new joiners took part for the very first time and rode well. Well done! You can enjoy some of the write ups in the TT Forum

A big party will also be going out for the Majorca training camp, so good luck to them – come back with some decent tan lines!

Cyclopark Training Session III
The first training session of 2016, at Cyclopark, has been booked for the 30th April 2016 12:00-15:00
The focus will be on core cycling technique such as cornering, group riding and leading. These are great sessions, and we get the whole track to ourselves.

Please can you RSVP the event on the Website so we know approximate number. RSVP HERE

Lee is also looking at putting on follow up sessions at Redbridge Cycle Centre on the Saturday 28th of May and Saturday 25th of June between 12:30-16:30. If Interested in either session please do something to let Lee know – Redbridge CC is not that far away, and we can coordinate lifts.

Steve Wand’s Funeral Arrangements

Steve Wand’s funeral will be held on 22nd of April at Eltham Crematorium, 12.30pm. It will be followed by a wake at the Sydney Arms, Old Perry Street, Chislehurst. The club will be organising flowers/charitable donation. Let me (Chris Dines) know if you plan to attend and we can meet up – I can do lifts if needed.

Kit News

The Kalas club shop is still open for another week - see details here.   As it's a busy period for our supplier, the order would take up to 6 weeks to deliver once the window closes - so would be expected end May. We've also updated the info on the kit that's available - please take a look.

Please contact Steve on kit@gsavanti.co.uk if you are interested in any accessories this year - caps and warmers specifically - as we'll be ordering a batch of these to hold in stock for the club.

New Joiners

Two new joiners this week, and I understand they both love a Time Trial. Welcome Joseph Mulhall and Mark Bishop. On the issue of new joiners, we will be doing a Spring recruitment campaign during April and May – watch this space, and assist where you can.

Have a great weekend, and ride safely.
