Hi all,

Apologies for the late publication this week, and it's simplicity. A bit of an oversight on the rota, means it's being squeezed in before I pack my bag and head to the G this morning !!!

With Autumn having arrived in this week, you’d probably thought the Grand Tours were over for the season. Wrong. Avanti’s very own Tour de Whitstable starts (and finishes) this weekend. The Grand Depart is rapidly approaching, with wheels set to start turning at 10am. I think there are still tickets available if you can get there in time.  I'm sure there’ll be music, food, and all the usual concessions there for you to enjoy, plus Elvis is making an appearance I understand !

Club Shop.

The club kit shop will re-open again on Sunday.

We have two shops now. One is the regular shop, but we also have a new shop where you can buy the new bespoke black version of long, ¾ and short tights.

The password is "avanti321".

Black long and ¾ tights are a Roubaix thermal material. They work well even at single-digit temperatures. We also have them in usual Avanti colours.

For the winter, Marek recommends the Rainmem jacket with an improved material. We sent a feedback to Kalas on the old material which got heavy and baggy when wet so they came up with a new lighter nicer resilient material.

For Autumn riding, the Flanders jacket is very good (but it doesn't have much stretch) or the Pro thermal jacket (a good stretch and very good looks).

Any orders placed in October will be delivered in the second half of November. September orders should be arriving in 3-4 weeks.

For all new members - we have now received a stock of new club jerseys. If you are a new member and you haven't received one, please let us know.

Any questions, email kit@gsavanti.co.uk.

This weekends Rides

With the Tour de Whitstable Stage 1 and Stage 2 taking place this weekend the regular ride numbers may be a little lower than normal. Stage 1 doesn’t so much suit the climbers, as the lunchers, whilst Stage 2 is definitely one for an early breakfast breakaway.

The early Saturday ride will be lead by Gary Peart this week, with the usual 40 miles and presumably coffee to finish in Belmondos.

G1 and G2 -  A shorter route is planned given the weather forecast. It billed as “a cracking 53 mile route as we come into hill climb season featuring four top climbs:Toys easy side, The Wall, Ide and Star”.

G3 - Alan Else will be leading G3 on a route to Lingfield.

G4 - Denis Moriarty will be leading on G4’s Iconic route, the Bumps…

For all rides this Sunday, I think you can expect rain, so please bring the necessary wet gear, and for the comfort of all, please ensure you have your mudguards back on your bikes.

Club Meeting - This Monday at 8pm.

The club holds a meeting open to all members every two months.  We cover all matters large and small with the objective being to listen to ideas, agree the direction for the club and find people willing to take on actions (everything we do happens through members injecting energy and time into them).

So please do come along if you can.  If you can’t make it but have any ideas about what additional things we could do as a club or things we could improve (or better still what you’d be willing to contribute to help with either of those!) then send them to secretary@gsavanti.co.uk.

October’s meeting will be from 8:00pm on Monday 2nd October in a private room at The Chelsfield pub (right next to Chelsfield Station).

Tesco Clubcard exchange for Evans Cycles vouchers.

I spotted the opportunity to exchange £1 worth of Tesco club card vouchers for £2 worth of Evans Cycles vouchers. If you’re long Tesco vouchers and not sure how to spend them, this offer might be an idea.

Enjoy your rides this weekend.
