Dear Club Member!

Whitstable Weekender – 30th September/1st October

We need to fix and finalise on numbers for what should be a great weekend as soon as possible – by this Sunday (10/9) please. About 25 people have registered interest (as yes or maybe), and we now need commitments. This note should provide enough information for you to make a decision.

If you intend to join in the fun, please ensure you have either RSVP’s on the event page, OR sent me an email directly. It’s OK to bring a cycling friend or partner, but you must let me know.

The Weekend!

Here is an overview of the plan, and what is included in the per-person cost of between £70 and £90 – the club is providing some support.

We’ll meet at Green St Green on Saturday morning. The riding will definitely have a focus on “sociable”, so there won’t be the normal split based on pace – but we will get in to groups to manage numbers.

A highly scenic routes is being planned (about 60 – 70 miles), aiming to arrive at the Free Wheel Bike Pub and Cafe at about 2pm for a spot of lunch – possibly the only country pub in the country dedicated to cyclists, and some 8 miles from Whitstable. The rest of the afternoon is flexible, and once checked in at the Hotel, you’ll have a chance to spend time in Whitstable which is a great place.

We have booked accommodation at the Premier Inn, which is on the outskirts of the town (15 min walk). In the evening we have booked our own space at the acclaimed Pub, the “Ship Centurion”. A range of food will be laid on, and it’s a chance to sample the great beer range that the pub specialises in.

On Sunday, after a bit of a lie in and breakfast, we will head back to Orpington on another 60 miler, aiming to get back by around 2.30pm. The return leg is more likely to be split by pace.

What’s included:

• Support Vehicle that will carry your evening kit, nutrition and any other stuff you don’t want to carry. This is the Le Vie en Velo coach/trailer, so if you want to stop pedalling there’s a broom wagon option! This will be with us throughout the weekend, so you will pick you luggage up when you get back to Orpington.

• Overnight twin bed accommodation

• En route nutrition.

• Breakfast on Sunday (either at the hotel or a lovely café in Whitstable)

• Evening dinner at the Ship Centurion

The cost for the weekend is just £70 - £90 per head (will vary by size of group), as the club is providing some level of subsidy for the support vehicle,

If you wish to join this trip, it’s really important that you can confirm (asap) on the club website at this EVENT PAGE. Not everybody uses the club website, so alternatively you can email me directly at
