Hi reader,

I have the mother of all hangovers and am extremely pressed for time so expect this to be barely comprehensible, riddled with typos and largely devoid of wit.  The usual Avanti newsletter in other words!

Lots of content so let me crack on…

New Members

Welcome to a number of new members (and a re-joiner):   Adie Crothall, John Maltby, Simon Keyes, Adam Daniel, Simon Vaughan, Michael Ison, Earl Codling, Gareth Griffiths and Phil Gray.  Great to have you in the club.

Time Trialling

There’s an effin hilly time trial tomorrow morning if you’re up for it.  Would be fantastic to get more points for the club (every finisher gets at least one point) so please do it if you can.  Event details here.

Also someone up on the 16th September is the end of season Brands Hatch 4-up.  It’s an amazing event and teams will be organised in advance so if you are interested please register here

Circuit of Kent Sportive

Avanti always has an impressive turn out for this event – a perfect opportunity to fly the club colours and attract new members – however we have left this very last minute so need people to register interest here and email graham.channon@gmail.com their details no later than August 31st.  Graham has spoken to the organisers and they have kindly extended online registration for us as they were intending to close it this Bank Holiday weekend so hurry!

Whiststable

A Whitstable weekender is planned for 30th Sep/1st Oct.  This will involve all levels of riders in the club mixing it together, a great ride with a support vehicle and, to top it all off, a night in a Travelodge.  The club is ponying up some dosh to subsidise the trip and it should be a lot of fun.  Beers may even be drunk.  Please indicate your interest here

Revolve 24 Weekend

Some Avanti members are doing a 6 hour time trial at Brands as part of the Revolve 24 event.  Details here.  It’s a team event - you share the riding with a fellow masochist.  It looks like it will be a pretty unique experience and there’ll be plenty going on down at Brands Hatch

Kentish Killer

It's time to start planning our annual fundraising sportive, the 2018 event is scheduled for Sunday 25th February.  For those new to the club, we run a hugely successful sportive out of Brands Hatch each year covering 70 miles across the Kent countryside including 6,700ft of climbing (it earns its name!).  The event raises a significant portion of the club's revenue and allows us to support a range of cycling activities as well as keeping our membership rates low. We also support a very worthwhile charity in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Service - to date we have raised over £30k for the charity.

The kick-off meeting is at 8pm on Monday 4th September at the Chelsfield pub, Orpington BR6 6EY.  The meeting will discuss and assign tasks that need support with a focus on attracting sponsors to the event.  If you have marketing experience or just spare time over the coming months to help out then your involvement would be very much appreciated.  Please try and attend the kick-off.  If you have any questions please contact Lee Powell (who is organising the event for the second time) on treasurer@gsavanti.co.uk.

Group Rides

The usual group rides are on this weekend (plus the second Early Bird ride on Sunday).  You know where to find the details - please RSVP on the event if you are planning to go, it really helps ride leaders.  Weather looks good so if you haven’t got anything else planned and you like riding a bike (which presumably you do) then one of Sunday’s rides might not be a bad call.

A brief note also on the regular Tuesday evening rides - the evening’s are drawing in (unfortunately) so please have lights on your bike.

And finally…

Have a fantastic long weekend - in an unusual turn of events it looks like the weather will be good on a bank holiday!
