Hi reader,

I hope you have survived the heatwave – I think that was the hottest Sunday for club rides for a long time!

We need a bit more help with things!

Great weather, so no surprise that on both Saturday and Sunday last week we had very large turnouts for club rides – around 70 attendees in total, and a great sight with almost everyone in club kit. We’re a very active club – just look at what we have put together over the coming days.

However (and the mildest of rants from your Club Chairman), we really do need more club members to help, by committing the odd bit of time here and there. All of us running things at the Club have very busy lives, and are unpaid volunteers of course. However, for a club with 150 members we need more individuals to step up, whether that’s ride leading, marshalling, helping with club admin or contributing to content for website, newsletters etc. Please keep in mind when there are pleas for help!

One small way you can help is by using the RSVP/attendance buttons for events. It really does help (time poor) organisers, and it can be frustrating for individuals running events when few bother to do something that takes 5 seconds!

Rant Over

TT Tonight at Cudham.

See HERE for detail. Note that you can see all TT times, standings and championship positions on the results section run by Johnny Edwards. See HERE. Note that you might have to page refresh for all the data to download. We had 12 entrants at the 21mile Hilly last week, and won on the night. GS Avanti are currently second in the Inter Club, though I suspect we might overhaul 7Oaks over the next two events.

2UP TT at Isle of Grain (this Saturday).

See HERE for detail. Grab a partner and give it a go. No experience needed, and this is one of the better courses for a first-time effort. If you need a lift, please add a note on the event page. It kicks off at 3pm, so by 4pm you should be away – with the option of joining the Cyclopark sessions.

IMPORTANT – we still need more marshals for this event. My broadcast of yesterday morning, generated one email response . Note that marshals (who don’t compete) get a £10 expense reimbursement. We have to cancel events if we don’t have the required marshals in place – so, if you can help with this one, please register HERE (or email me!). Certainly, those who compete regularly in the 21 event series should expect to help at a couple of the (7) events that GS Avanti are responsible for.

Cyclopark Training – Riding Skills

See HERE for detail Led by Lee Staples, we have another 3 hour session this Saturday, 3pm – we hire Cyclopark for this. If you are competing at the 2UP at Grain, you will be very welcome to join the session once you have finished (though you will need a road bike with you, not a TT set up please).

This is free to all members – and it’s fine to bring along guests who would be interested.

Introductory Ride – Aimed at Road Cycling Newbies!

See HERE for detail. We have our second monthly introductory ride this Saturday – a 20 mile intro in to the joys of road cycling in a group (whatever your level of experience. Please do advertise this to friends, family, colleagues, gym mates etc. The first was a great success. Thanks Claire Clarke for organising, and those who help on the day.

These will all be posted up by Friday (Saturday morning, led by Simon Clarke) is already on the site. I will be doing a quick email alert to everyone Friday night with final details – and please do follow the links to confirm attendance.

Enjoy the weekend – weather looking good but a lot cooler!
