Hi reader

I'm enjoying watching the opening stage of the 100th edition of The Giro at my desk on Eurosport - looking forward to 3 weeks of grand tour action. This inspired me to use a pink Avanti header for the duration of the Giro - in case you are wondering if there is a problem with your eyes.

Just 49 riders managed to complete the race that year, and when the legendary Giro d’Italia director Armando Cougnet asked the winner, Luigi Ganna (who worked as a bricklayer), how he felt having won the race, Ganna replied in a rather laconic way with his Lombardy accent: “me brusa tanto el cu” (“I have a terrible pain in my behind!”). I can only imagine the agony!

There's a lot of info in this week's newsletter - please endure like Ganna to the end.

Group Riding and Leading Guidelines

Based on recent feedback we have compiled a list of guidelines for our club rides.

Please read through and make sure you are prepared for your next ride.

https://www.gsavanti.co.uk/group-ride-guidelines/

There is a great blog post on group rides which highlights some of the common problems and how to keep things smooth - thanks to Richard Bingham for finding this one.

We also have guidelines for ride leaders in the ride leaders forum - please read through this if you are a ride leader and hopefully we'll introduce consistent features across all groups.

There are also guides in that group area for planning and posting routes and events.

Event Calendar

A quick reminder that we have a calendar view of the events on our website, this can be handier than the list of events to see what's on at-a-glance. https://www.gsavanti.co.uk/events-calendar/

Time Trials

Tomorrow we have our first fast course of the year - Tonbridge - it's a very early start and very popular despite being on a dual-carriageway. Good luck testers - INFO HERE.

Next week it's another Saturday TT - out at Grain - it's a bit of a trek - please coordinate getting out there on the event page HERE.

Cyclopark Training

Next weekend - Saturday 13th May - there will be another training session at Cyclopark - it's a great opportunity to improve your skills for all members of the club. Focus will be on core riding techniques, cornering, group riding and leading.  FULL DETAILS HERE.

Open Day and Intro Rides

In 2 weeks time we are going to run another club open day - these are popular with members and guests alike. We invite friends and family to join us for our usual rides on the Sunday 21st May and we converge on the same cafe - free refreshments for everyone. Please try to attend - would be great to see as many as possible at The G. Please invite anyone you think would enjoy it. EVENT INFO.

On the Saturday - 20th May - we will host the first of our Introductory Rides. These are aimed at newer riders who are perhaps not quite ready to make the leap to 40 mile rides with G4 but are keen to get out with a groups and explore more of the local area. It's a 20 mile local loop and should be fun. The event info is on our website HERE and also posted to Facebook HERE. Please invite anyone you think might like to try it out. Contact Claire Clarke membership@gsavanti.co.uk.
