Dear reader

With the Criterium du Dauphine on TV this week to whet the appetite, coupled with some promising weather for the weekend, its surely going to be a busy couple of days in Avanti colours.
Over and above the weekend's regular rides, there's quite a few things coming up over the next week or two as well, so check out all the events on the website.
Just use the dropdown calendar in the "Events" tab to look a little further into the future to see what's coming up.

New Membership.

Welcome to new member Simon Board, who joined the club this week.
Simon joined G4 last Sunday for a first taster of Avanti, and was a member within a matter of hours of returning from that ride. I'd imagine thats a record !

Club (Committee) Meeting. Monday 11th June.

Venue: Chelsfield Pub, Chelsfied. Start 8pm

Indicate attendance here

The meetings are open to all members, it is not exclusively for the committee members.
If you'd like to come along, please do. If you have any suggestions, please make them. If you think you're in a position to help with some aspects of running the club, please volunteer. It's our club, and many hands make light work.

Tuesday training Rides.

There was a strong turnout last Tuesday, with I think 8 riders on the start line at the G for the 7:30pm grand depart. For those new to the club, the rides are mixed ability, with stronger riders supporting other riders. I've joined a couple in recent weeks and found them really good fun, albeit tough.
If you fancy pushing yourself ( that's the point, you push yourself, as opposed to being pushed to keep up with faster riders), come along and see what you can achieve. To sign up for this weeks ride see here

Time Trials

Last night was the East Peckham Time Trial, and whilst its too early for any results information, news is coming through of a nasty sounding accident for Alan Jarrett.
It seems a lorry did not see Alan as he was negotiating the last roundabout on the course, forcing him off the road as he took avoiding action, unfortunately sustaining a broken collar bone in the process.
Best wishes to Alan for a speedy recovery.
BTW, Bill Fitzgerald was the first to reply to Alan's post on the club Chat asking how the bike is :-)

The next TT is this Thursday 14th June. It's the 20 mile hilly course starting in Gracious Lane and taking in Baileys and Hubbards.
Start time 7:30pm. For full details click here

Training at CycloPark

Don't forget, we have another session booked for training at CycloPark on Saturday 14th July.
The aim of these sessions is to introduce and improve cycling skills useful for club group rides and time trials, such as cornering, group riding and leading.
These are great session for riders just beginning and/or wanting to improve – practise existing skills.
With a lot of new members joining in recent weeks, it would be good to see as many of you as possible come along to this session, particularly if you are new to group riding. Highly recommended for all new members.
The session will be lead by certified British cycling coaches Lee Staples and Richard Liston.
More details and info on how to register on the website.

Further down the line is the Brighton Big Dog Mountain Bike Race on 11th August.
With this in mind a couple of Saturday morning trips are planned for to Bedgebury
23rd June - see here for details
21st July - see here for details

Don't forget , all of these events out there over the coming months can be viewed via the Events calendar, so don't miss out on something because you hadn't seen it until it pops up on the home screen on the website.
