Hi, reader

Happy New Year!
I hope you've had a good festive season and I've already seen some of the shiny new gadgets on the WhatsApp Avanti Chat group!
The start of a new year is a good time to reflect on the year that has just finished - what went right, what went wrong, what you'd like to do more of, how can you improve?
Any goals for this year?
Any questions about training or new bits of kit?
If you've not seen the WhatsApp groups - just ask someone in the club to let you in - lots of chat to be had. I've seen chat about cassette ranges, thru-axles, beer, mudguards, tubeless tyres and much more!
PS - mudguards - they don't help your bike look cool - but please invest in some if you haven't already - they keep your fellow riders clean and dry!

KK Helpers!
Alastair Drysdale, Tony Le Vey and new recruit Claire Watson are organising helpers for the Kentish Killer sportive on Sunday 3rd March 2019. Help will also be needed on Saturday 2nd March to put signs along the route. Please keep one or both dates free!

As you know, this event provides a major source of income for the club (as well as providing a healthy donation to the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance) and is more important in 2019 following 2018's cancelled event. The club needs all the help it can get with this - can we rely on you for a helping hand? I gather there is also a free T-shirt in the offing for those that help - the must have item for one's Spring 2019 collection...

Ideally, we would like to allocate the same roles that people had signed up for in KK2018, but we realise some changes are inevitable - either Claire, Alastair or Tony will be contacting you early in the New Year to check on your availability, so please keep the 2nd / 3rd March 2019 weekend free!

AGM
We have our final club meeting of '2018' on 21st Jan with the AGM to follow the week after - see the website for more details.
If you're interested in getting more involved in running the club - please let us know - committee@gsavanti.co.uk

Kit News
I've still got 3 hoodies that people had ordered to collect - you know who you are - get in touch :)
If you're interested in a new hoody - please sign up here - we'll be able to place a new order once we have interest for 25.
The new alpaca socks should hopefully be arriving next week - stay tuned.
Full stock of club t-shirts are in cycles-UK now - order on RiderHQ.

Race News
This weekend it's round 11 of the London+SE CX League at Redbridge.
Next weekend it's the National championships hosted at Cyclopark - well work a visit over the weekend! The last East Kent CX the weekend after then the last round of the London league the weekend after that.
Sunday 10th Feb it's the Team champs - would be great to get a good Avanti turnout there - for those of you that haven't raced CX yet - including the MTBers in the club - it would be a fun day out.

Club activities this weekend
Forecast
Seems like the cold snap is here to stay - zero +/- 2C for most of the weekend - with high humidity overnight will mean morning frost - take care out there.
Also please remember to click on the event to let ride leaders know that you'll be attending.
It's the West Kent RT this weekend I think - though with conditions like they are I'm not sure anyone in the club is riding it. There are several more coming up - so please try to keep those in mind when planning group rides.

Early Saturday Ride
40 miler at the usual time out to Wrotham and back via Carters - no USM...

Sunday G2

Chris Moss is leading a ride out to Lingfield.

Sunday G3

Stay warm and upright out there!
