Cycling Club
Since I last reported the activities of us older LVRC riders (Roger Hornsby and myself) we have had more success following on from Rogers silver in the regional champs. We have both been active at the Redbridge Cycling Centre riding the East London Velo evening events. Roger has again been the most successful and has won the series overall with myself coming in second. Roger had clocked up 16 points to my 10.
On Sunday 21st August we rode the Whitewebbs event with mix results. The race started very fast with Olly Macpherson Dumfirmline CC taking off from the gun Dick Naylor San Fairy Ann and Stuart Walter Kettering CC went with him Roger was the only one from the chasing group to bridge the gap. This left the rest of us back in the main pack. After a hard fought battle to stay with the leaders Roger finally lost contact and dropped back to the bunch.
With such a fast pace being set at the front by the four leaders, on the 1k lower circuit we end the race one lap down. This left us scrabbling for the minor places 2 laps from the end I took a chance with Trever Mill Ford CC and we got a hopelessly inadequate lead and end up back in the bunch on the bell soon after which Roger countered and in the confusion caused by someone in the bunch shout out “don’t chase he’s a lap down” he got a big lead. It was to late by the time someone else shouted “don’t listen to him close that gap”. Roger stormed home for 4th place and as Dick and Olly are in the younger age cat and Stuart ( a unknown rider to us locals) turned out to be in a older category this gave Roger another win. Trever Mill and I paid for our miss time attach and finish 9th and 10th.
Picture is after the finish to shattered to climb the Hogenburgh.

Comment by rob on August 23, 2011 at 11:16 Good to see there's a good spread of racing across all age groups in the Club. I hope to be having a go in the LVRC myself next year, though the Hoggenburgh might be off limits from July if the Olympics gets its' way:
