Apologies fior the silly title, but I could not resist !. This weekend has seen some of the coldest weather seen for quite some time, but its been a deep cold, and frosty, without much Ice. I had planned to do the Kentish Killer G2 ride some time back, but had been defeated by the weather, so this was an opportunity to try again.
I went out on a 45 mile ride into the country on Saturday, so was reasonably confident that today would be similar, with little ice on the backroads. That proved to be the case, and the roads were reasonable, with just a few small isolated patches of ice in a few areas in shadows. The weather was fantastic, with blue skies, and almost limitless visibility.
The G2 group started with 9, but we have a few turn back early due to the cold, or the hills (or maybe both !)
Our route was exactly 50 miles long, and followed very closely the majority of the KK route. First major climb of the day came off the Pilgrims Way, up Rowdow Lane, and is a bit of a shock to the system. The hills then arrive in quick succession, with the climbs out of Knats Valley, Carters Hill, and Hubbards coming all too quickly. We stopped at 4 Elms for a well deserved warm up, and energy top up, before the final assault of Ide Hill, then Star.
The stats are - total climbing 4846 feet. Total cycling time 3hours 40mins. Total Elapsed time 4 hours 41 mins
Average speed 13.7 mph
Thanks to everyone who came out on the G2 ride today. Great way to spend a Sunday morning - despite my legs being a little "tight" now !.
