On the cadge. Anyone got a Park SG-8 saw guide clogging their garage up.....

Had a bit of a crash this morning on my commute.  Not sure what happened exactly but I think these stupidly cheap rubbish tyres I fitted at the weekend just slipped from underneath me.  Bruised ribs…Continue

"Agree that you don't need to be too fussy, I just use a junior hacksaw and take it carefully - just leave a couple of mm for the top cap to fit into the stem - I haven't experienced any splintering with carbon, it usually cuts very cleanly…"

"Agree with Simon. Just a fine tooth blade and a stem / spacers as a guide. I even start the process with the fork still in situ, and put a spacer on top of the stem as the guide for where I want to cut. That way, there's no way you can cut it…"

"Superstar components do a saw guide for £15.  Standard Hacksaw 24tpi. Just went gently. No alcohol required. Deep breaths and go for it. Alright, I did do a practice run higher up the steerer and I filed all the edges nice and smooth…"

"Not on your lovely Ridley?  Did you have a stiff drink before to steady your hand? Were you fussy about the hacksaw blade as some manufacturers say carbon specific blade or at least 32tpi steel blade?   They'll be making forks out…"

"I'm going to get shot down for being a rough bodger, but I've always used a standard hacksaw blade and an old stem as a guide. Measure twice, cut once. And go careful while you cut - I've had no problems. Done this on steel, ally and…"

Gravel

Went out for a quick ride today (couldn't spend my whole paternity leave changing nappies) and thought I should mention Kent have been busy resurfacing roads or, more accurately, dumping loose gravel on them. Parts of the road after you've gone through Plaxtol and the bit near Hadlow Hall are a bit of a death trap. Take care if you're out that way and it rains on Sunday.

As an aside, I was told that bikes aren't allowed inside Brookside garden centre although they'd let me off…

Steve,

yes I'm concerned about not being fit enough for Flanders. I'll be at the G on Sunday and Rye on the 10th. I''ve entered for the V02 on the 18th and Chris is up for a Rye run on the 25th.  Any thoughts.
