MTB tubeless frustrations!

For as long as I've been biking I have been running my MTB tyres with tubes in the traditional way, but for the past five years or so I have watched the tubeless revolution grow and grow. I've also…Continue

Chris Dines and I rode the KK long route today. To our knowledge we are the first to do so. Dan also started with us, but turned off early with a pulled muscle. Steve B was going to be with us, but…Continue

The reason that I've been neglecting the G1 rides for the last couple of months was that I was putting in the miles on my mountain bike so that I could survive the Kielder 100. That's a 100 mile…Continue

Well done Bill. I managed a couple of hours on the mountain bike in the snowy fields. Didn't go too hard, just enjoyed the frozen trails before they all turned to mud again.

I was doing OK and it was great fun in the snow. People were falling off all over the place, but coming to no harm. The top boys took it in their stride and were flying as usual. At the beginning of lap six I got free of a group that had been…

But if you can get to Herne Hill the cycle-cross race is ON! Great opportunity to try cross - there's a novice race at 12.45 and the standard race at 13.45. More info at http://www.londonxleague.co.uk/ All you need is a mountain bike (or…

I'm up for these, but will have to check on social engagements to see which ones I can make.  No big climbs at Thetford, but good singletrack. And it's only worth travelling that far for four hours of riding/racing. No point just…

Nowt wrong with mid table I say! Well done. Good news on eventually sorting out the tyre.   Looks like the 2 way fit of the Fulcrum wheels give you the option of tubeless on a road bike too. http://www.campagnolo.com/jsp/en/tech/id_8.jsp

***Update*** My mountain bike race came around with only the front wheel running tubeless. Still, wheels are good and light and strong and I had no failures on either tyre while I struggled to a mid table performance. The race was in south Essex and…

Yeah I always got mine on by just jiggling it round and pumping hard! I never really liked them though I kept burping the air out or getting slow punctures so wen't back to tubes. And my rims are pretty mashed up now :)

So tempted by ghetto tactics. I had actually seen that and thought it would be a good idea if CO2 failed. Cheaper than cartridges and reusable. When I was a proper engineer a couple of years ago I could have sourced all the bits no problem down the…

I use CO2 canisters every now and again. You can pick boxes of them up cheap from eBay.   Alternatively, you can make your own compressor, Blue Peter-style: http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/ghetto-tubeless-inflator-total-cost-9p

Jonathan, thanks for your help. It seems that my suspicions were right and that I do need to use a compressor (with a decent sized reservoir) or CO2 canister. I have a CO2 connector thing. I do not have a compressor. So that settles which method…

Some tyres will go with a track pump, others won't. Even exactly the same tyres - one will work on the front, but won't for the back. One of the joys of tubeless...   You need a fast fill of air, which means either a) a compressor, or…

Sundays Off Road ride

Four of us braved the weather to follow the thames river path. Jenny,Glyn, Steve and myself much trepidation at the start after watching Groups of tourest slipping and sliding on the black ice around the Wolfe statue in Greenwich park. We never got as far as Eirth marsh as promised, gave in to the cold and turned back at Trip Cock point and warmed up in the Cafe at the Thames Barrier. 20 miles I add a bit extra on the way home through Castle woods total 30 miles.See More
