Have been having a sort out of the garage and have lots of items that need to go. Have tried to price them low, so that other club members get a bargain. However, feel free to haggle, if you think…Continue

"Having a daughter a little over a week old and an attention-seeking toddler means rides have to be squeezed in as and when. However, with it being Father’s Day I managed to wangle a bit of extra time and got a pass to go riding, which I in…"

"Wow, that's some commitment! 100 mile ride at 5am off no sleep? Mental... Re: the nausea, it's unlikely that it's down to just riding, so the question is what are you doing for nutrition on your rides? There are some energy drinks /…"

Jonathan Harris replied to Steve Gale's discussion On the cadge. Anyone got a Park SG-8 saw guide clogging their garage up.....
"Agree with Simon. Just a fine tooth blade and a stem / spacers as a guide. I even start the process with the fork still in situ, and put a spacer on top of the stem as the guide for where I want to cut. That way, there's no way you can cut it…"

Ironbike

I'll keep this relatively brief, as I've submitted an article to a cycling website, which will hopefully be published in the next week or so.

Ironbike is the hardest thing I have ever done by an enormous margin. Trying to put in to words how hard it was is a challenge in itself, because even the raw stats don't do it justice...

Take the toughest day you've ever had on the bike. Add a bit more. Then get up and do it all again over the following six days. That…

UK Cross Country Marathon Championships

Sunday I raced the UK Cross Country Marathon (XCM) Championships up in Selkirk in the Scottish borders.

The list of starters had come out a few days before and was a bit of an eye-opener. It was like a ‘who’s who’ of UK mountain biking with a list of elite XC and XCM racers (up to UCI World Cup level), 12 and 24 hour national champions, the last three winners of the Kielder 100 and a certain Dan Fleeman (ex-Cervélo Test Team).

The race was held in parallel…

Kielder 100

The Kielder 100 is the UK's only 100 mile mountain bike race, run out of Kielder in Northumberland, just on the border with Scotland. It's only been running for 3 years, and it now appears to be attracting a host of top riders from the UK from World Cup XC riders to top endurance / 24 hour specialists. This was my first attempt and it was to prove a rather brutal introduction...

The weather websites had been predicting heavy rain all week and as I got up at 4:30am to the sound…

Trans-Wales

The Trans-Wales is a 7 day mountain bike stage race. Due to bye-laws restricting the racing on bridleways and byways, it's not possible to race in a traditional end-to-end Trans format. Instead, you have a set route to complete and if you finish outside the allotted time, you're given a time penalty (although in reality, the time restrictions aren't particularly challenging). These stages are a combination of linking sections and also taking in some of the finest trails Wales has to offer and… Continue
