Tuesday chain gang starts again on Tuesday 29 March 2011
The Tuesday evening chaingang ride lasts for roughly one hour and is well attended by members of GS Avanti. It is aimed at riders of a Group 1 fitness level and is used as fitness training by those who are interested in racing, time trialling or looking for a short but fast training session.
The riders meet every Tuesday evening in the spring/summer at the roundabout near the Polhill Garden Centre (see map). Please see the Events page of the website to check what time to meet, as it differs depending on the time of year.
We currently use two routes, which we alternate between each week:
- The short circuit (click here for details)
The riders do this short 2 mile long circuit about a dozen times, allowing people to miss a lap if they get dropped from the group. If it is your first time attending the chain gang ride or you are unsure about your fitness, we recommend you attend an evening doing this route first. To check what route we're doing, check the Events page
- The long circuit (click here for details)
The riders set out together doing the long circuit and wait at the turning point for everyone to re-group, before heading back to the start.
How to ride in a chain gang
The chain gang ride using a through and off formation. If you've never ridden like this before click here to view a guide. The ride aims to introduce people to through and off riding in a safe environment. We slow down at roundabouts and stop at red lights so there is no unnecessary risk taking. Please let one of the leaders know if it's your first time so they can welcome you and go through the basics.
