On Sunday July 29th, the Women’s Olympic road race will take place, and I’m thinking that it would be fun to go and see the event, instead of the usual G2 ride.
The Denbies Wine Estate is just off the A24, near Dorking, and is hosting a Surrey Hills Road Race Festival. They will have a giant screen tv, so you can keep an eye on the action, secure cycle parking, catering on site, plus other bike related stands. The website is
www.surreyhillsroadracefestival.com/
The Festival opens at 10.00 am, and they have a limit of 3000 people, so we would need to be arriving close to opening time if we are to get in !. Proposal would be to leave Green St Green at 7.45 am. The route is approx 30 miles, and we would take a fairly direct route (probably using the A25 from Godstone). I’ve allowed 2hrs 15 as some G3 riders may wish to join us. The Women’s Road race leaves central London at 12.00 lunchtime, so there will be a couple of hours wait, but I’m sure there will be plenty to see at the Winery (maybe even some samples ?)
We would leave, I’m guessing about mid afternoon, and can either ride direct back, or on a more scenic route to arrive home late afternoon. The A24 itself will be closed, but we are able to access the Winery via the subways under the A24. If you would like to come on this trip, could you let me know via the forum, as I need to see if there is enough interest. Many Thanks Steve Riley

Permalink Reply by DaveB on July 16, 2012 at 18:42 Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip with other club members to the Alps. Your proposed trip to watch the Women's Olympic Road Race sounds very exciting. So exciting that Jenny, Ian and I have already secured tickets like Claire and Simon for Boxhill.
You will therefore need to organise another G2 Ride leader to cover the 9.15am slot at Green Street Green on Sunday 29th July. Dave B Any volunteers ?
