Cycling Club
Hi,
I'm organising a trip to the Tour of Flanders, as per 2011. Please RSVP in the events page if interested or contact me direct. Post Q's here.
I can accommodate up to 10 people at my place (or more at B&B round the corner). Travel over on the Friday 30th, take part in the Saturday sportive, then watch and mingle with the pro's on the Sunday. Great atmosphere, great event and, personally, I again plan to do the full 265km route. Outstanding places to drink but most people fall asleep after a 265km ride.......though there's the 150km option and 80km one as well.
Last year we did the course in warm, sunny weather. Previously I have done the 265km in freezing, wet conditions with a gale blowing in from the coast. Still loved it, but not everyone's idea of spending 10hrs plus turning those pedals! You do 5,000ft of climbing, often up sharp, cobbled hills. When they are wet, it's chaos as you go up the Koppenberg. Even the pro's land up pushing!
It will cost you about £140 to cover transport, event entry, accommodation for two nights, in-house food and the odd beer from the fridge. Massage not included.

I'm still a yes and I've booked the Friday off work

Great. Looks like a few beers in Bruges pre event...........
Hi Chris,
Thanks for offering to organise again. Much appreciated. I'm still a big "yes" for this. I can get the Friday off, even though it is the last day of the financial year and we are usually at panic stations!
I've not done any long rides yet - concentrating on 'cross at the weekends. So I might have a little trouble with 160 miles! But anything less just wouldn't be right. Having some help at the finish and being able to see a bit of the pro race also sounds fantastic.
How was your weekend at the cross worlds?
Cheers
Simon
Hi
Brilliant. I'm only cycling indoors at present, but as soon as this cold snap goes I'm planning a few long rides (mainly in Belgium.....long story!)
Chris
Hi Chris,
I am still a yes for Flanders. I am hoping to have replacement car in time for trip (Mazda6 Estate) but will keep you informed as and when.
I have a friend who lives in Luxenburg who did this last year (but now a billy no mates as all have committed to other events this year!!) but he would like to join up with us if possible?
Cheers
Martin M
Hi
Is your mate a Leopard Trek rider!?
Of course he's welcome (small accomodation/food charge). I'll need to get car details from you by this weekend to get bookings done. We can always change reg details.
I'll book both cars in overheight.
I've committed to going on a stag weekend to Newquay the next weekend, thus missing Paris Roubaix coverage :(, so I will not be able to afford to come to Flanders as well unfortunately. So I will keep the avanti flag flying in the UK by racing here that weekend whilst the European squad is away :P
Shame mate. have sent you an email on other stuff.
Chris
