GS Avanti

Cycling Club

For those of you who get restless legs on a Saturday morning might I suggest a 21 mile Contre la Montre Ide Hill way? It starts on Gracious Lane taking the undulating route to the top of Ide, freewheels down through Bough Beech reservoir before partaking of the delights of Hubbards Hill and, for twice the fun, repeats the first part to end at the top of Baileys. Good practice for the Exedown.

For those of you haven’t ridden it before the course details can be found under GS/311 at the bottom of the link:

http://www.sydenhamwheelers.co.uk/courses.php

It's an 0830 start and there is plenty of parking. The meeting place is as per the link below:

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=551925&y=152325&z=115&...

The normal field is from what I can gather, Sydenham, 7Oaks and Avanti with occasional Bigfoot and privates.

I should mention that it's a Sydenham Wheelers TT and entry is £3. Also, it does not count towards the Inter-Club but there's hope for next year (!).

Hope to see you there...

I'm not going to do this, but I just wanted to mention I did it once and almost beat Lee, Haha Lee. hmm need to work on the not getting lost part of time trials.

Almost.. not difficult.. but then you are the only person I've ever beat on this course.

What time did you get on this last time you did it.
Sorry, still in Belgium. Time Trialing with at least 10ft of climbs!
sounds good see you there

Sounds good.

I have tried to map this out but am not sure I have followed the (already simple) instructions correctly as the route is a mile short. Can anyone confirm whether I have plotted this correctly?

Looks correct to me. I think it is a bit shorter than advertised.

Will try to make it up for this!

It was a damp, wet morning giving rise to thoughts of greasy roads and dodgy brakes but the course turned out to be not too bad in the end.

Provisional results for the event as follows:

Well done to everyone who took part. Apologies if there are any accidental errors, the confirmed times will be sent out in the usual manner. Many thanks to Jane (7Oaks Tri) for the ever-welcome mug of tea at the finish line and to Bob for the timekeeping and signage.

Thanks for putting up the times, Rob!

Amazing time from you to break the hour and come first. Pretty depressing to see you catch me before Hubbards Hill on the first lap, casually able to offer me some words of encouragment as you passed, but it at least gave me something to aim at for a bit.

But I was pleased with my time given i went out fairly conservatively. I have real problems if I go into the red in the first ten miles in the mornings without a warm up, because it's like the middle of the night for me due to work, so made sure not to go there. First time I've ever beaten Dave Twin in a TT. It's interesting because he was almost a minute quicker on the first lap.

Well done to Dan for coming first for avanti.  Steven Warner also put in a great effort and would have been in the first couple if there were a handicap. Johnny Edwards going well too.

As you said, maybe this should be on the interclub next year.

Well done Dan, but did you forget that you had also entered the open this morning?
Good times by everybody, I hear it's a tough 21 miles. I will give it a go next year.

I didn't forget about the open,  i finished work at 0730 so i had no chance for that. plus i got no email or feed back from them.   so i decided to enter this one instead.  straight after work on am empty stomack.

if i do this next year it will be under the hour. in first place.

I love this circuit, great course. this should be included into the interclub.

also need to lose a bit of weight, finding the hiils a struggle at the moment.

Wiggins and Froom doing well in the vaulta.

well done to doug and all the other avanti riders who came out this morning.

Nice one no problem, I only found out on wedensday which was later than most opens. Definatley would be good to have longer distance TT's instead to just 10's. We should have club champs of 10, 25, 50's etc.
