GS Avanti

I'm sure that everybody has been watching the weather forecast closely.  The combination of ice, and snow is clearly not good, and we have decided that the G2 ride will not go ahead.

But if you can get to Herne Hill the cycle-cross race is ON! Great opportunity to try cross - there's a novice race at 12.45 and the standard race at 13.45.

All you need is a mountain bike (or cross bike) and a sense of fun!

Go on - what else are you going to do?!?

How did you get on Simon ?.   I went out on a 13 mile off road ride on the MTB instead - great fun in the snow, but  pretty hard work.  Only fell off twice !!

I was doing OK and it was great fun in the snow. People were falling off all over the place, but coming to no harm. The top boys took it in their stride and were flying as usual. At the beginning of lap six I got free of a group that had been holding me up a little and went for it. Unfortunately I smashed my back wheel into a brick or stone and flatted so that was me done for the day.

That was the last race of the season. Next year I'll get myself a spare pair of wheel to stash in the pits. I found out today just how frustrating it is to DNF.

Well done for getting out. I went out on the mountain bike yesterday morning and found that deep-frozen trails have the most grip! Dry, solid, grippy trails. Brilliant, even though you freeze your extremities off.

Also, snow riding? You need one of these

The idea of using Cross to get a ride in bad weather spark some old memories of how us old gits found ways to keep going in snowy, icy weather. I chickened out today and we got permission to close Hog Hill to the public and I went for a long walk in the snow instead.
