FOOL'S ERRAND SPORTIVE - SUNDAY APRIL 1 2012

This is a new (and hopefully) annual event: 120k through the best-loved parts of Kent with 1500 metres of climbing over some of the area's most testing hills.  Fully-supported and signed, with hot food available before and after it should be a challenging but satisfying day for all.

I'm keen to promote the event because any surplus goes to Widehorizons - a charity which provides life-changing adventure for children and young people - and because the Dulwich Paragon team behind our Ride Of The Falling Leaves has helped the charity to design a ride that we are sure will appeal to all sportive riders.  Something for everyone at a modest cost of £20.  It starts from one of their centres on top of the North Downs: Margaret McMillan House, Gravesend Road,  Wrotham, Kent TN15 7JN.   After this the route follows quiet country lanes and roads through beautiful countryside and picturesque villages.   Heading first south-east into the rolling hills along the Medway valley it then turns west onto a fast, undulating stretch across the Kent Weald before turning north past Bough Beech reservoir and up the notorious Toys Hill.  Sweeping down again into the Westerham Valley the route then turns east to Otford and the tough climb up Rowdow.  After a gentle descent into the Darenth Valley, it then heads towards the finish with some short, sharp climbs back to the start.  There's one feed/toilet stop around the 70k mark and a water/toilet stop 20k before the end.  Ample free parking is available at start and there are good rail connections nearby.

Entries are limited to 500 riders and it's filling fast so anyone who wants to participate can sign-up online right away at: http://www.riderhq.com/events/foolserrand

Thanks - and best wishes.
