GS Avanti

Cycling Club

In short after yesterdays race meeting several options were discussed to help bring others into the racing fold.

The Idea;

Tuesday or wednesday 7.15pm.

Location Polhill Garden Centre to A25 to A20 and then back, 28 miles approx 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Practice closed group riding skills.

Through and off with a maximum of 22mph on the flat and 15 mph on the climbs, to start. (for shorts periods to start with)

Minimum 6 riders needed.

Views needed and who's interested?

Daz

Start date 22nd June?

As I said at the rugby club on Monday, I'm up for it. Even if we don't get 6 riders I'm still up for a fast paced ride on Tuesday evening.
Sounds like a plan, the more of this the better. It's the closest we can get to racing without being in a race.
We can jump on the Dulwich Paragon chaingang, but unless we get us together practicing racing in close quarters with through and off we'll always be racing as individuals not as a team.
yes i'm up for this, back home now. might be worth starting at 7pm though, and why a max speed on the flat?
Can't make 1900 hours, but I'll try. The max speed is to try and entice others to join us expanding the racing team, starting off slow and building up the speed.

any suggestions are welcome

Daz
This is a good idea. i should be able to make it when im back on my bike.
Hi Daz

try and push on with this one. I agree with bill that you should tag on with Dulwich at the end. it will push you to the limit. they have much more strenght and depth than we do
Is this still on tonight guys?
I think it is on bill, just found this in the events list http://www.gsavanti.co.uk/xn/detail/5241852:Event:1630?xg_source=ac...
Nice one Daz for organising
Well done guys,

I and Oli will be joining you in a couple of weeks
Rolled up, three of us me, Steve and I think Simon (please correct me if i'm wrong).

Practice close riding skills and can you keep up with me.

13 miles out, average 23.9 mph
13 miles back, average dropped to 21.6 mph.

Kept the speed fluctuating around slimulating racing.

I did the whole distance on the front, apart from the race up Polhill averaging 18mph.

another two who could happily race at 4th Cat with ease.

need more to practice through and off.

Daz
sorry was on my way but had a flat so doubled back home to fix it, would have been too late to catch you guys so met up with bill in the end (also running late), sounds like a good ride though.
Cheers for the ride Daz, will see you there next week

Thanks Dave for leading us on Sunday.  shame that we had to cancel the G2 ride, but the predicted conditions were just far too dangerous to be taking out groups of riders.  I have to say that I was not that disappointed that we did not…

That's a shame as we must have just missed you as five of us arrived at the Green, looked at the road again and then started to have second thoughts.  I headed home to the boredom of the turbo (after mistakenly just popping back into bed…

Well done Bill. I managed a couple of hours on the mountain bike in the snowy fields. Didn't go too hard, just enjoyed the frozen trails before they all turned to mud again.

Sundays Off Road ride

Four of us braved the weather to follow the thames river path. Jenny,Glyn, Steve and myself much trepidation at the start after watching Groups of tourest slipping and sliding on the black ice around the Wolfe statue in Greenwich park. We never got as far as Eirth marsh as promised, gave in to the cold and turned back at Trip Cock point and warmed up in the Cafe at the Thames Barrier. 20 miles I add a bit extra on the way home through Castle woods total 30 miles.See More
