decided to crack on and be back by 12.30, was back at the G by 12.10 and was home bang on time.
When I left boxhill, the wind was building so hopefully when you left it blew you home nice and fast, saw frankie by westerham munching on some bar.
77 mile avg 19.1mph
Must have eaten too much and popped a spoke at the top of Hogtrough Hill :(
We got back at the green by 1:20, which includes the extra 10 miles of mainly climbing and the stop at Box cafe, so not a lot in it. You should have toed us!
Steven Joseph had is strung out a bit on the way down. (One way trip!)
I gave it some welly going up Box Hill, but I note Andrew Gleeson has the club record by 3 seconds. Fair play! (Damn those new post road race speed bumps!....hehe)
On the way back Steve and Chris shared a lot of the work. I got to the front and decided to keep it steady, only for Jamie to attack at twice the speed. I chased onto his wheel, and then there was no one behind us. Terry and Roy got back on. Then one by one they faded, leaving matey here as the last man standing by Polhill. Yes, I won the club ride! Rejoice!
My ride 86.8 Miles avg speed 17.9 mph max 35.2 mph avg heart rate 148bpm max 181bpm cadence avg 77 rpm
Climbed 4,537 ft Calories 3409.
Thank you G1 gents for a great sunday ride out
I was determined to short cut a bit rather than go all the way east to the green and then back to Lewisham so broke off on a road signposted to Biggin Hill / Bromley. As many of you know my sense of direction is terrible and it led onto the busy road that we cross on Pilgrim's way. Turns out it's a horrendous steep hill that just keeps on going. Only the certainty of getting mown down by a car stopped me getting off and pushing. Made it home for 1.45 which sounds about 10 minutes quicker than if I'd gone to the green though so well worth it!
Looking good for Doug next week if he was within 3 seconds of Andy's time and the speed bumps and billowing jacket must have cost a good 30 seconds.
Sounds like you went up Westerham Hill, Steve. Its a really dangerous hill to climb, in my book, with a near blind left hand corner 3/4 of the way up. All the cars try to get up as fast as possible, so it can be pretty nasty. Steve
