Event Description

Dear 7Oaks Tri and Avanti friends

I am Sydenham’s new Road Race Secretary for 2011 and for the first time in a long time, we are holding a Club Road Race Championships.

I would like to invite your members to compete against us in this “fun” event!

It will be held at Hillingdon Cycle Circuit on Sunday 18th September. This is a chance for all our time triallists, sportive riders, audax riders, cyclo-crossers, mountain bikers, hill climbers and social members to have a go at at least one road race this year and test their legs head to head against their clubmates. We have hired the circuit from 1pm to 5pm and there will be racing for all ages and all levels, with prizes on the day.

Please will you ask your members to put this date in your diary and let me have some idea of the level of interest and I’ll forward more details later in the year. I'm sure our Social Secretary, Mr Rob Royston, will also be looking to make this a fun afternoon in the sunshine for all the family, more details to follow.....

This race will be in some sort of handicap format to make it fair for everyone.

Question:

Is this open just to club members or can you bring a family member / guest?

I have registered it with BC as a C race so we have indemnity to invite who we like (if they have a licence or one day licence). I was planning on putting on a senior handicap of 45 mins plus 5 laps and a youth handicap of 20 mins plus 3 laps, although I'm letting youth A riders ride the senior race instead if they wish. . I am open to ideas but I'd like to keep the senior race to club members only but maybe the youth race can be for any family to encourage new riders.

Will you need to bring you own bike or will there be bikes / helmet / kit for hire?Can you use any bike: Road, TT, BMX, MTB, Chopper, Grifter, Striker, budgie, Fixie, Penny Farthing?

You need a road bike and your own clothing/helmet. No hire kit sorry as far as I know but I will ask. I have the circuit for 4 hrs as that's the minimum so we can all warm up/cool down on the circuit in a sociable environment but the extra time could allow riders to have a go on their Grifters etc before or after. We could put on other/longer races too, to be discussed.

Is there a minimum age?

Youth D is 8 to 10 so that is definitely ok, I'll check for under 8s.

Will there be any kind of tutor or instructor?

Is the event covered by any form of insurance?

Do you have to participate or can you just sit back and soak up the atmosphere?‬

The more the merrier in fact help is always handy, to be discussed e.g. Teas and coffees, line judges, sign on.....

Comment by rob on August 31, 2011 at 14:33: I think the first Sydenham rider over the line will win their Criterium shield. I was wondering if there is a similar award within GSAvanti? Or whether, depending on the numbers intending to ride, it was something worth considering?
