!!! YOUR CLUB REALLY NEEDS YOUR HELP !!! at Bells Yew Green, Kent

April 21, 2014 from 9am to 1pm
Hi all.As many of you will be aware, an increasing number of club members have been trying their hand at road/circuit racing in the last few years. So, being the local league, GS Avanti have an annual affiliation with the South East Road Race League in Kent so we can race under our club name and also benefit from reduced entry fees etc...An important part of our league membership obligations is to provide static marshals and support cars for one race a year which in 2014 this race is the 4th…See More

Autostrasse Porsche RT road race

Bit of a trek this morning up to Ipswich for the Autostrasse Porsche RT road race. Surprisingly, for Suffolk a rather rolling course with one steep punchy climb to the finish line. Added to this, a stiff wind meant that half the circuit left us exposed to a cross and headwinds. 11 laps of the 7 mile circuit ended up proving tougher than expected. The race started gently enough, but as the first lap progressed, riders began to attack. Nothing too much to worry about, but as the second lap started…See More

LATEST NEWS FROM AVANTI

Rides for Easter Weekend

Final details will be posted up 17/4. Plenty of people away, but there will be 4 rides.

Tuesday training rides

Lee Staples is once again running a weekly training ride on a Tuesday evening (7.30pm from the Rose and Crown). The rides focus on developing group riding skills, and all are welcome. You can find more details by CLICKING HERE, where you can join the training ride group.

******This week we all learnt how to be super domestiques - riding in line, passing water bottles etc - good fun, and great experience of working in a close group*************

Liege Bastogne Liege – spaces going!

At the last count we have some 15 club members going to Liege – doing the sportive on the Saturday (three different lengths) and watching the pro-race on Sunday. There are more details HERE. Various injuries mean there are two free spots going – free meaning booked hotel space, transport and sportive entry. This will be a brilliant trip – if interested please get in touch with Chris Moss (email details on the event page).

Follow up to the Group Ride Survey.

Many thanks to the (near) 60 of you who completed the survey. Results were discussed at the Club meeting on 7 April.  Aside from moving to a four-level ride structure (see above), there are other constructive plans afoot….they’ll be introduced step by step. One example is that the Club is looking to develop support and training for ride leaders, covering safety, leadership, guidance for new joiners and so on. Many individuals indicated they would be interested in leading rides, given such training – if you are one, please send an email to Steve Riley at stephen.127@hotmail.co.uk.

Majorca………..

And finally, good luck to all those club members setting off to the Majorca training camp this weekend or next.

Avanti supporting 4 day Road Race at Bells Yew Green 21 April – join the experience!

Avanti are affiliated to the South East Road Race League, which means our members can participate in a range of competitions. As part of the deal, we agree to drive support cars and marshal at an event. This year we are helping out at Day 4 of a 4 day road race.Bill Fitzgerald is coordinating this – see more on the EVENT PAGE.
